Meet the Owners

Jenifer Jones, Co-Owner, Registered Physiotherapist, IMS (Chan Gunn) Practitioner, Certified Cervical and Temporomandibular Therapist (CCTT) & Facial Neuromuscular Retraining Therapist

Jenifer received her Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario in 1996. She has been working in private practice physiotherapy in British Columbia since graduating. Post graduate studies have included Intermediate Manual Therapy in the Orthopaedic system of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA), Chan Gunn IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation), Advanced Vestibular Rehabilitation, Temporomandibular (TMD) and Cervical Specialization Certification and Visceral Manipulation through the Barral Institute, and Bell's Palsy/Facial Neuromuscular Retraining.

Jenifer was awarded the title of Certified Cervical and Temporomandibular Therapist (CCTT) in 2022 from the Physical Therapy Board of Craniofacial and Cervical Therapeutics (PTBCCT), a US based international group of physiotherapists who specialize in the evaluation and treatment of patients with cervical spine disorders, cervicogenic headaches, orofacial pain and TMD. Jenifer is a member of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain (AAOP).

Jenifer is very passionate about her work and believes any successful treatment stems from a comprehensive assessment to find the “root cause” of the problem. She utilizes a multi-modal approach to her treatments, incorporating many different technique to achieve goals.

Jenifer has proven success with mentoring physiotherapists and prides herself on a very “hands-on”, multidisciplinary approach to her treatments. She has been the physiotherapist to international, interprovincial and recreational sport teams and players.

Trevor Fraser, Co-Owner, Registered Physiotherapist, IMS (Chan Gunn) Practitioner & Certified Hand Therapist (CHT)

Trevor graduated as a physiotherapist in 1996 from the University of Western Ontario and became a Certified Hand Therapist in 2001. He’s been in private practice physiotherapy for over 27 years. His professional memberships include the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA), Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (PABC) and the Canadian Society for Hand Therapists (CSHT). Post graduate studies have included the Intermediate Manual Therapy Certificate in the Orthopaedic system of CPA and Chan Gunn IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation).

Trevor has been an invited speaker with PABC, CSHT, University of British Columbia, OASIS Hand Symposium, WorkSafe BC and the BC Society of Surgeons. From 2014 to 2017, he served as President of CSHT and Host Organizing Chair of the Annual CSHT conferences  held in Vancouver in 2011 & 2017.

Trevor enjoys teaching. He founded and currently directs one of the first private-practice hand therapy Fellowships offered in Canada. He also routinely supervises university students completing clinical placements.

When not at work, Trevor’s first passion is tennis. He also enjoys staying fit, snowboarding and travelling.

Meet our Surrey Team

Hussam Hakeem, Registered Physiotherapist & IMS (Functional Dry Needling) Practitioner

Hussam graduated in 2013 from the Master’s of Physical Therapy program at the University of British Columbia. He also completed his Bachelor’s of Science from UBC in 2010, majoring in Neurological Sciences and minoring in English Literature. His experience includes working with client’s in all fields of practice: neurological rehabilitation, orthopaedics, hand therapy, sport’s injuries and geriatric medicine. Hussam is certified in Functional Dry Needling (IMS), and uses this technique to augment his current hands-on-approach to his therapy sessions.

Hussam believes a client’s positive outlook is just as important as the therapy they receive – Approaching a client’s therapy from a holistic perspective not only achieves balance, but also paves the way to a speedy recovery and return to function.

Jas Dhanoa, Registered Physiotherapist & IMS (Functional Dry Needling) Practitioner

Jas’ academic career began at Simon Fraser University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Physiology prior to completing his Master of Physical Therapy at the University of British Columbia.

Jas has always been interested in science and the human body.  When deciding what career path to choose, his own experiences rehabbing injuries led him to pursue physiotherapy. The various treatment techniques that he was exposed to during his rehabilitation and education worked to develop his specific physiotherapy interests including manual therapy and IMS. Given this, Jas has completed his Orthopaedic Division Level 1 as well as IMS certification.

Jas has experience with various patient populations ranging from neurological conditions, hip and knee replacements, chronic pain as well as general orthopaedic conditions. This background knowledge gives Jas the ability to work with a broad caseload of acute and chronic patients. His treatment relies on the use of hands-on manual skills and IMS coupled with education and exercises to make long lasting changes for his patients. Jas is also fluent in Punjabi.

Growing up in BC, Jas has a love for the outdoors which includes hiking, swimming and skiing fresh powder in Whistler or the Interior.

Robert Pulfer, Registered Physiotherapist & Vestibular Rehab

Robert is a graduate from the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine, with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy, 1992. Prior to his physiotherapy degree, he completed a Bachelor of Science (Biology) from Simon Fraser University, 1988.

Not simply a practitioner, Robert continues to be a student and educator in the field of Physiotherapy, with an emphasis on treatment for patients with sports-related injuries. He's published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and a former Chairman of the BC Section of the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

Robert is a former Olympic Cyclist, having represented Canada in the 1984 games in Los Angeles, and was Canadian National Champion from 1980 to 1984. His competitive sports history also includes hockey, swimming, volleyball, basketball as well as track and field. This personal experience and professional expertise combine to give Robert the tools to be a remarkably effective and understanding physiotherapist.

Away from the clinic, Robert's been married for 28 years and is the proud father of four children. He’s an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying hiking, rock climbing, mountaineering and backcountry skiing. He employed all of these interests as a former member of the Lions Bay Search and Rescue team. When he’s not being physically adventurous, Robert enjoys astronomy, playing chess and gardening.

Robert’s treatment philosophy: “Treat the patient as you would yourself. Give them the most current information available in peer-reviewed research articles so they can make informed choices. Provide both hands on treatment as well as home programs, practiced and reviewed in the clinic.”

Kurtis Stromdahl, Kinesiologist & Return-To-Work Coordinator

Kurtis graduated from University of the Fraser Valley in 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Kinesiology. He is a member of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK) and the Canadian Kinesiology Alliance (CKA).

Kurtis is our senior Kinesiologist at healthOne with over 10 years of experience.  He works closely with the hand therapy program (at all healthOne locations) performing job site assessments, coaching movement mechanics/ergonomics, and coordinating gradual return to work programs for injured workers.  Kurtis' professional return to work services are utilized by over ten therapy clinics in the Lower Mainland.  

As a former collegiate athlete, Kurtis continues his active lifestyle as an avid volleyball player and golfer.  Kurtis believes that maintaining an athletic lifestyle is essential to long and healthy living.  

Lauren Von Bulow, Registered Occupational Therapist & Certified Hand Therapist (CHT)

Lauren graduated from the University of Windsor with a bachelor of Human Kinetics, Movement Science. She then went on to complete a post-graduate certificate in Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management from Humber College. Lauren's desire to help others lead her to complete a Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy from Queen's University.

Through her hand therapy placement in school and work experience, she realized her passion for treating hand and upper limb injuries. Lauren completed the hand therapy fellowship program through the Roth McFarlane Hand & Upper Limb Centre at St. Joseph's hospital in London, ON, and has gone on to become a Certified Hand Therapist.

In her free time, Lauren enjoys swimming, hiking, and trail running.

Ivy Avila, Registered Physiotherapist, IMS (Chan Gunn) and Acupuncture (CAFCI) Practitioner & Hand Therapy Fellow

Ivy received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Perpetual Help System in the Philippines in 1997. She has furthered her education with studies in Orthopaedic Physiotherapy, CACFI certified acupuncture training and Chan Gunn IMS through UBC.

After graduation, Ivy worked as a Clinical Supervisor in the Philippines. Later she moved to the Middle East where she worked for 10 years in tertiary hospitals, expanding her knowledge base on patient care and newly emerging treatments. Having gained that experience, Ivy immigrated to Canada in 2011 in search of further challenges and opportunities. Ivy has over 24 years of experience in working with patients from diverse communities to help them achieve their physiotherapy goals. Always eager to learn, she continues to educate herself in the latest evidence-based treatments and incorporates those in treating her patients. She speaks English and Tagalog fluently, as well as a little Arabic.

When not working, Ivy enjoys outdoor activities, reading, movies and travelling.

Ivy’s treatment philosophy: “Treat the patients like family. Listen to them and communicate with them. Then, guide them and support them with the latest proven therapies and techniques”.

Ryan Desrosiers, Registered Physiotherapist, IMS (Anatomic Neuropathic) Practitioner & Hand Therapy Fellow

Ryan’s approach to physiotherapy is driven by his value of educating patients on the recovery process. He believes that education can be a key driver for recovery and that patient comprehension of their condition is paramount for a successful rehabilitation.

Ryan earned his Master Degree as a physiotherapist from the University of British Columbia and his Undergraduate Degree in Athletic and Exercise Therapy from Camosun College. He spent two years working with the University of Victoria Varsity Rugby team where he helped athletes deal with a variety of acute injuries and return to sport rehabilitation. He also spent two years working in a cardiovascular rehabilitation program in Victoria BC, assisting patients manage heart disease and chronic conditions through a regular therapeutic exercise program.

Currently, he divides his clinical time between our Westside and Surrey locations. Ryan's main interest is hand and upper extremity therapy. Ryan is currently advancing his skills in upper extremity management as a Fellow in our private Fellowship program. He utilizes manual therapy techniques, splinting, therapeutic modalities and an individualized exercise program to help his patients achieve their goals.

In his off hours, Ryan stays active by hiking with his dog and spending at least five days in the gym working on functional strength training with a balanced core program.

Alp Ertung, Certified Fascial Manipulation® Specialist, Fascial Manipulation® Teacher & Neuromuscular Therapist

After completing his “Therapeutic Massage Training Diploma Program” and “Neuromuscular Therapy Certification Program” in Florida, Alp started to work in physical therapy centers as a soft tissue manual therapist in Istanbul, Turkey. He then completed the Balanced Body® Pilates Instructor Training Program in order to combine manual therapy with exercise. In 2011, Alp started a part-time, post-graduate program called "Higher Diploma in Neuromuscular Therapy" at the College of Complementary Medical Education in Dublin, Ireland. Upon his graduation in 2014, Alp decided to focus on fascia science in order to understand and interpret the functional integration of the human body. He attended international fascial anatomy dissection workshops, fascia research summer school in Germany and International Fascia Research Congresses. This experience led to teaching workshops on functional anatomy, individualized orthopaedic medical exercises, and sustainable self care programs.

In 2015, Alp was officially  introduced to the Fascial Manipulation® - Stecco Method in Washington DC. He completed all of his Fascial Manipulation® courses with Dr. Antonio Stecco. In 2021, he became a Certified Fascial Manipulation® Specialist. He continued his training and completed the teacher training program began upon Dr. Carla Stecco and Dr. Antonio Stecco’s kind request. After assisting Dr. Antonio Stecco several times in Padova, Italy, he passed his teacher’s exam and earned the Fascial Manipulation® Teacher certification in August 2023. Alp’s specific international qualifications do not have a regulatory body in Canada and for this reason his services are not covered by insurance companies.

Alp has a Bachelor’s degree in communication studies. He studied and professionally performed jazz as a drummer and classical music as a singer for many years. He still plays drums and sings occasionally just for fun. He also loves to travel and explore different countries with his wife.

Shveta Chauhan, Registered Physiotherapist, IMS Practitioner, Vestibular and Concussion Rehab & Hand Therapy Fellow

Shveta received her Bachelor of Physiotherapy Degree from India in 2006. In India, she worked within various clinical settings including spinal injuries, pediatrics (special needs), sports & musculoskeletal injuries. She immigrated to Canada in 2010, where she started working in various hospital settings before moving into private orthopaedic practice. In private practice, Shveta has rehabilitated individuals with musculoskeletal, sports, post motor vehicle accident, work-related, and post-surgical injuries. Shveta has over 17 years of physiotherapy experience. Her treatment philosophy is to focus on patient education, so patients understand the nature of their problem. She combines this with a tailored treatment plan that emphasizes therapeutic exercise so each patient can better participate in the rehabilitation process.

Her postgraduate studies include intramuscular stimulation (IMS), vestibular & concussion treatment and level 1 pelvic floor therapy. At this point in her career, Shveta is now looking for a new challenge. She has joined healthOne as a Hand Therapy Fellow and will be pursuing her Certified Hand Therapy designation. She is a member of the Canadian Hand Therapy Association (CSHT).

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her kids, doing outdoor activities like hiking & running, dancing, and listening to music. Shveta is fluent in English, Hindi & Punjabi.

Marissa Hutton, Registered Physiotherapist, IMS (Anatomic Neuropathic) Practitioner, Temporomandibular Therapist & Facial Neuromuscular Retraining Therapist

Marissa graduated from the University of British Columbia with her Master’s of Physical Therapy after completing her Bachelor of Kinesiology. Since graduating, Marissa has been working in private practice physiotherapy and she is currently completing a fellowship in treating Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) for patients with jaw pain.

Post graduate studies have included Temporomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain, Facial Neuromuscular Retraining (for conditions such as Bell's Palsy and Ramsay Hunt Syndrome), IMS (intramuscular stimulation), Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy, Orthopaedic Division Manual Therapy Level 1, and Mulligan Concept Lower Quadrant.

Marissa has plans to pursue further education as she considers herself a lifelong learner.

Heather Jee, Registered Physiotherapist, IMS (Anatomic Neuropathic) Practitioner, Vestibular Rehab & Temporomandibular Fellow
